9th Annual, Santa Barbara African Heritage Film Series - February 1 - 29, 2008

The Santa Barbara African Heritage Film Series will screen a number of premiere films at the Metro Four Theatre, as well as, sponsor several other community events including: a historical display, an art exhibit/auction, Kidz Day and a Community Celebration.

The historical exhibit recognizes the 50th anniversary of the integration of Little Rock High School. Manuscripts of national and global significance will be on display at the Karpeles Manuscript Library and Museum, along with items from private collections (free).

An "Art for Peace" Exhibit will be shown daily at the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center (Free). On Friday, Feb 15th a Silent Auction will be held at the Art Reception/Celebration at the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center. The Silent Auction will feature art from Uganda, by orphaned child soldiers and widows. The reception will feature music, dancing and drumming. African food will highlight the evening.

"Crisis at Central High" will be screened at UCSB Multicultural Center on Feb 6th, followed by a discussion with the audience. (Free)

A fun-filled, Kidz Day (ages 5-12), will be held at the downtown Central Public Library on Feb 9th. A wonderful animated, feature length film will be shown, along with other short films, arts & crafts, live performances and refreshments (free).

A full day of premiere screenings of provocative films that are educational, entertaining and engaging, will be held at the Metro 4 Theatre, on Feb 23rd. The movie "Honeydripper", starring Danny Glover, will be shown. The music is awesome, with outstanding characters and good photography. This film has screened in other major cities and has most often been an audience favorite. See website: www.sbahfs.org for more details.
